Tutorial on how to merge GPX files and copy selected GPS data between different files using OkMap.
In this video, you will see how to load multiple GPX files, merge one file into the selected file, select individual GPS data items and copy them to another GPX file, finally checking the result on the map and in the File Manager.
Recommended prerequisite
To better understand this tutorial, we recommend watching these first:
Procedure:
- Load the GPX files to use
- Expand the Waypoints, tracks, routes node in the File Manager
- Select the destination GPX file
- Merge another GPX file into the selected file
- Verify that the destination file has been modified
- Open a GPX file containing the waypoints to copy
- Select the destination GPX file
- Select the waypoints to copy
- Add other waypoints to the selection with Ctrl+click
- Copy the selected waypoints to the destination GPX file
- Check the result on the map and in the File Manager
- Save the GPX file with a new name
Tips:
- Always check which GPX file is selected before performing an operation
- Use Ctrl+click to add multiple waypoints to the selection
- Check the map to make sure that the waypoints have been copied correctly
- Check the File Manager for updated waypoint, track and route counters
- Keep the original files until you have verified the result
- Save the modified file with a new name if you also want to keep the original version
Notes:
- You can merge one GPX file into another selected GPX file
- You can select individual GPS data items (waypoints, tracks, routes) and copy them to another GPX file
- Copied data can therefore be present in multiple GPX files
- The File Manager updates the data counters after copy operations
- The modified GPX file can be saved with a new name
Common errors:
- Selecting the wrong GPX file as the destination
- Confusing the file merge operation with copying individual data items
- Forgetting to select all the data to copy
- Not checking the result after copying
- Deleting or overwriting the original file before verifying the result
