Add, move, and delete points with precision to improve your GPS routes.

Recommended prerequisite

To better understand this tutorial, we recommend watching first:

Procedure:

  • Set an appropriate zoom level to work precisely
  • Select the Track tool and start drawing
  • Use the Selection tool to move the map and select points
  • Select a track point to add new points after it
  • Delete unwanted points by selecting them (Shift + drag) and using the context menu
  • Unlock map objects to move points (if needed)
  • Use the Eraser tool to quickly remove individual points
  • Use Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y to undo or redo changes

Tips:

  • Always work with a high zoom level to avoid positioning errors
  • Add a few points at a time to keep control of the track
  • Be precise when drawing curves
  • Keep straight sections clean by removing unnecessary points
  • If making many edits, save the GPX file frequently
  • After editing, reassign time data to the track (see video "Prepare a Hiking Trail")
  • If needed, use the track simplification function (see video "Processing a GPS track")

Notes:

  • The context menu (right mouse button) is essential for many editing operations

Common errors:

  • Drawing with too low zoom, causing inaccuracies
  • Forgetting to select the correct point before adding new ones
  • Not noticing that objects are locked and cannot be moved
  • Creating tracks with too many points, making them hard to manage
