Tutorial Overview

Tutorial on how to download a web map and save it locally using OkMap.

In this video you will learn how to select a geographic area, set the zoom level, add optional map overlays, and save the map to your computer so that you can use it even without an Internet connection.

Recommended Prerequisite

To better understand this tutorial, we recommend watching first:

Procedure:

  • Open the Map Server function
  • Define the area to download using coordinates and zoom level
  • Set the coordinates using the geocoding function
  • Set the desired zoom level
  • Define the map dimensions in pixels
  • Download the web map from the online source
  • Add optional map overlays
  • Refresh the download to include the selected overlays
  • Save the map to the local disk
  • Open and verify the saved map

Tips:

  • Use appropriate zoom levels to achieve the best balance between detail and file size
  • Always verify that the selected area is correct before starting the download
  • Add overlays only when truly necessary to avoid creating excessively large maps
  • Save your most frequently used maps so that you can consult them even without an Internet connection
  • Use geocoding to quickly locate places of interest
  • Check the available disk space when downloading very large areas

Notes:

  • Locally saved maps can be used offline
  • The time required for downloading depends on the size of the area and the selected zoom level
  • Some map services may impose limits on the number of downloadable tiles

Common Mistakes:

  • Selecting a zoom level that is too high for very large areas
  • Setting insufficient pixel dimensions for the intended use
  • Saving the map without verifying the final result
  • Downloading areas that are too large, generating excessively large files
