Garmin BaseCamp

Garmin BaseCamp is a free software application created by Garmin to organize GPS data, tracks, waypoints and routes used on Garmin outdoor devices.

The program includes synchronization functions, GPS library management and route planning mainly using compatible Garmin maps.

OkMap

OkMap is a software application focused on raster cartography, the management of georeferenced maps, GPX track analysis and advanced outdoor use.

The program includes functions for elevation analysis, DEM management, map calibration, creation of Garmin KMZ maps and real-time GPS navigation.

GPX track management

Both software applications allow importing and exporting GPX files, but OkMap offers tools more oriented toward technical track analysis.

With OkMap it is possible to correct elevations, filter GPS errors, analyze elevation profiles and compare multiple tracks simultaneously.

Offline and raster maps

BaseCamp mainly works with compatible Garmin maps and proprietary vector maps.

OkMap, on the other hand, is particularly effective with scanned raster maps, georeferenced topographic maps and custom cartographic images.

Compatibility with Garmin devices

BaseCamp is specifically designed for the Garmin ecosystem and offers direct integration with many outdoor GPS devices.

OkMap still supports GPX export, waypoints and the creation of Custom Maps KMZ compatible with many Garmin devices.

Cartographic and elevation analysis

OkMap includes advanced tools for terrain analysis, elevation profiles, slopes, DEM data and technical route evaluation.

BaseCamp includes simpler tools, mainly dedicated to route planning and outdoor activity management.

Which one should you choose?

For Garmin users mainly interested in GPS synchronization and basic route management, BaseCamp may be sufficient.

For users working extensively with raster maps, GPX analysis, georeferencing and advanced outdoor cartography, OkMap offers more complete and flexible tools.
